Gender Equity Awards: Storyfolk recognised as national leaders. Photograph with all of the finalists

We’re thrilled and honoured to share that Storyfolk was a national finalist in the Gender Equity Awards. This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to building a workplace where inclusivity, equality, and opportunity aren’t just aspirations but are embedded in our daily practices.

Our Creative Director/Partner, Sarah Gross, had this to say  on the night:

“At Storyfolk, we’ve always believed creativity is a powerful force for change. Being the only creative agency recognised on a national stage alongside industry leaders like TelstraSuper, Monash IVF, and NRMA is an honour and a reminder of our industry’s role in shaping a more equitable future. Businesses don’t just reflect society; they have the responsibility and opportunity to influence it. This recognition reaffirms that gender equity isn’t just a value we uphold; it’s a fundamental part of our operations, and we’re committed to leading by example.

A sincere thank you to the judges and everyone involved in organising this exceptional event. While I’ve been momentarily captivated by the puffs of fire outside the window here at Crown, I want to take a moment to recognise my business partner and co-pilot, Cass Mackenzie. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together, and I’m excited to continue pushing boundaries through our work, using Storyfolk as a platform to drive meaningful, lasting change. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Thanks again.”

Advancing gender equity in business

The Gender Equity Awards night was a night to remember with a fun celebration hosted by Business in Heels at Crown Casino, Melbourne. The awards bring together over 60 high-achieving professionals and businesses across 11 categories, all of whom are committed to advancing gender equity and creating inclusive workplaces. This event will celebrate progress and inspire further action towards a more equitable future.

Leading by example

As a female-founded creative agency, we see our business as more than just a place for innovative design and strategy. It’s a platform; one that has the potential to challenge the status quo and drive real, systemic change. The Gender Equity Awards highlight businesses that not only provide outstanding services but also lead by example in creating fairer, more inclusive workplaces. Being named a finalist is a proud moment for us and a powerful reminder that businesses, big and small, can make a tangible impact on gender equity through the way they operate.

Standing among industry leaders

What makes this recognition even more meaningful is the company we’re keeping. Alongside prestigious names like TelstraSuper, The NRMA, Origin Energy, and Monash IVF, we’re the only creative agency in the mix. This is a testament to our belief that creativity, innovation, and inclusivity can go hand-in-hand. It also underscores the growing role that creative industries play in shaping a more equitable future, where businesses take an active role in communicating and championing the issues that matter.

Committed to championing change

The gender pay gap remains a significant issue in Australia, with women earning, on average, 78 cents for every dollar a man makes. This gap translates a difference of $26,39 each year. The knock-on impacts in super, opportunities and growth can’t be overstated.

At Storyfolk, we recognise that while progress has been made, there’s still much work to be done. By fostering a culture of gender equity in our own organisation, we aim to be part of the solution, not just a bystander. We want to ensure that our workplace is one where everyone, regardless of gender, feels supported, valued, and has equal access to opportunity.

Driving change, inspiring others

Being named a finalist for the Gender Equity Awards 2024 is a proud milestone for Storyfolk, but it’s also an opportunity to continue driving change. As a business, we understand that change starts within. Our mission is not just to create great design and strategy for our clients but to be an example of what a truly inclusive, equitable workplace can look like. We hope our story inspires other businesses—especially those in creative industries—to follow suit and make a real impact.

The journey doesn’t stop here. Together, we can help close the gender pay gap, build more inclusive cultures, and ensure that gender equity is at the heart of every business practice.
